We all want the best for our family.
When we add a new puppy to our family, we are adding a new family member.
Just as each family member is unique so is each puppy/dog.
You do your research and choose the breed with the personality, size, and energy level that fits best with your family. There are many puppies available and how do you find the "right" one? They're all so cute, right? Most claim to be "well socialized".
What happens before you even bring your new puppy home makes all of the difference. What if you could have more input into their personality than realized? What if where you adopted your puppy from and how they were raised the first 8+ weeks, made the difference that changes your entire experience with your fur-baby?
We have been doing research and finding where and how your puppy is raised makes a vital difference in how your puppy/dog meshes with your family. Maybe you have heard things such as:
We believe adopting/buying a puppy from a responsible breeder that raised the puppies in-home from birth until he/she comes to your home makes all of the difference.
Puppies have a sensitive period of socialization during which a wide range of positive experiences help to set them up for later life, according to Zazie Todd, PhD in www.companionanimalpsychology.com.
When is this sensitive period? The first weeks of life.
Karen B. London PhD in Where Should Puppies Be Raised found on www.thebark.com, sites that there is an easy way to improve chances of adopting a puppy from a breeder that is ready for life as a friendly, sociable pet: choose a puppy that was raised in an indoor (kennel) with a family rather than one that way raised outdoors in a kennel.
Simply put, dogs that are raised in-home are better prepared and suited for life and for their future family. They have less fear, anxiety, and aggressive behavior. They've already heard the sound of the vacuum, a conversation, a glass breaking, and other sounds that are typical in every day life. They were born into the environment and as their senses are developing these outside stimuli are part of their daily lives. They also learn how to interact with various family members: men, women, children. They also interact with other family pets, if present.
In-home raised puppies are constantly being monitored by their families , and the family will know each puppy very well. They will be able to tell the adoptive family every detail about the puppy's personality. The family will also be able to identify promptly if a puppy is in distress, needs extra help nursing or is having a reaction to vaccines etc. This results in healthier puppies. From personal experience raising puppies, when the puppies are raised in your home and part of your life 24/7 for those first eight weeks, the household revolves around those puppies. One cannot quantify the amount of love and attention poured into those puppies. When that puppy goes to his/her forever home, he/she will be ready to be your shadow, best friend, and loyal companion and that is priceless.
