Long ago, these energetic dogs could be found on Irish farms, skillfully guarding property, hunting, and chasing away unwelcome pests. However, the Wheaten had to wait until 1937 before the Irish Kennel Club finally recognized them as a breed. The year was 1946 when the first Wheatens set paw on American soil, and despite a slow start, these charismatic canines found fame in the late 1950s.
