About Basset Hounds

The Basset hound is a medium-sized breed of dog with a unique and jovial personality. Below their short but strong legs they have heavy-boned frames, giving them the signature “Basset” look. This breed is loyal, loving, even-tempered and tolerant, making them an ideal choice for families with children or adults who need companionship.

History

Believed to be the descendents of a mutation in the St. Hubert Hound, Basset Hounds have been around for centuries! From popular family dogs with French royalty to hunting companions during the French Revolution and eventually making their way over to America by colonial times - this breed has come quite a journey since it's early days. It wasn't until near the start of 20th century that they rose up as an independent breed known all across North America today!

Temperament

Friendly and laid-back, Basset Hounds are an ideal companion for apartments or city living. Despite their low energy level, regular exercise like walks is essential to prevent weight gain in this breed. Training may be a challenge at first as these dogs have inherited the stubbornness of many hound breeds - but shaping your pup with reward-based training tools and positive reinforcement will yield the best results!
